Newcomer Marc Webb has emerged as the surprising front-runner to direct Sony’s “Spider-Man” reboot.
Though James Cameron and Michael Bay’s names have also been mentioned, it’s the “(500) Days of Summer” helmer that Amy Pascal seems to hot on for the contentious re-erect of Sam Raimi’s 2001 blockbuster. According to Collider, Sony are said to be wanting to get underway on the film as soon as possible (which could explain why Cameron and Bay likely haven’t been asked – since they’re busier than a chug-a-lugging womanizer on Valentine’s), in order to not only make the 2012 release date, but so they can prep the ‘3D’ (oh boy... here we go again) elements of the flick. Sony’s interest in Webb essentially confirms the new “Spider-Man” flick (which, according to some outlets, Zac Efron is the leading contender for – I know, Jesus Christ!) will be skewed to a rather young audience (read : the “Twilight” audience). Will Webb's Golden Boy Joseph Gordon-Levitt be asked to screentest for Peter Parker?
